Preserving Newhall Community Day
By Sophia Ren, a new member of Cheers
Location：22421 Market street, Newhall
On August 20, 2022, three members of the CHEER Youth Group, Alice, Thomas, and I helped out with the city’s beautification project. Volunteers can choose to pick trash, brush the wall, pull out the weeds, and mulch the streets.
Alice and I participated in picking trash. We walked along the streets, picking up all sorts of trash, either the bottles which can be recycled, or other trash such as napkins, glass, socks, bottle caps, and lots of cigarette ends. We worked from 9 in the morning till 12:00 at noon. Once our trash cans are full, we would go find the garbage truck to carry away the trash.
On the other hand, Thomas and his father was involved in a huge amount of mulching, cleaning up the green belt and moving the mounds of bark and mulch from the mulch pile to encompass the trees.
This event was a fantastic experience for all of us, and I will wait in anticipation for the city to host this event again.
