My name is Alicia Lin, I attended the Youth Cancer Convention last Saturday. It was very informative and there was a lot of important information covered.
There were many speakers who presented throughout the convention. The gist of most of them was that there is a clear connection between smoking/vaping and developing cancer. There was a cool “commercial” developed by a student and her friends about the dangers of vaping. For instance, from 2017 to 2018, about 1.5 million teens vaped. The majority of them die from EVALI, which stands for “E-cigarette Vaping Associated Lung Injury.” Most importantly, the nicotine from the e-cigarettes lead to compromised t-cell function and decrease the effectiveness of cancer treatments.
